Did we stumble upon Eklund’s sources?

Talking to a source right now who brought up something that was VERY similar to what a former NHL Team stickboy theorized to me earlier today…

The source, who has MANY years experience in the NHL, as a zamboni propane tank filler told me this…”I just heard that Eklund get’s his scoops from the guy who collects the used tape wads in the visitor locker rooms at the ACC”

That source is not right though. Another source who I will call EC told me that Ek’s source is none other then…..

Eklund's source

Eklund's source

For those of who you don’t know who this is, click here

You see, it is so obvious says EC:

Fact number one:

“August 7, 2008, 6:59 PM ET
Talking to a source right now who brought up something that was VERY similar to what a former NHL Team person theorized to me earlier today…

The source, who has MANY years experience in the NHL, told me this…”I just heard that Toronto wants Sundin back and Sundin wants back in Toronto. Toronto will sign him today as long as Mats is willing to NOT include a NO TRADE CLAUSE in the contract.. That is the hold up currently and ONLY that.”

WHOA!

That is a BIG TIME HOLDUP if I am Mats. NO way I go to Toronto without a NO MOVEMENT CLAUSE!

What is interesting is the former NHL team person theorized along these EXACT lines earlier had written to me saying that he feels Sundin wants to stay in Toronto… Toronto wants him back, but with the ability to trade him…. Sundin doesn’t want that… so a standstill until someone blinks…. At some point, the air travel in Vancouver won’t seem so bad and he will go there, or Montreal… but it is stupid for Toronto to have Sundin, if you cant trade him….”

Fact number 2 (pardon the pun):

McCabe Deal Close (e3)…
August 12, 2008, 12:31 PM ET
…”Yesterday apparently Cliff Fletcher was quoted as saying that he had yet to talk to Mats about a NMC or NTC…no shocker there….

stay tuned”

Ummmm no Mr. Hanky, I mean Ek, it isn’t “apparently Cliff said it”. its FACT, listen to the interview yourself. It is clear as day:
“Cliff then debunks Eklunds theory on a no movement clause holding this up by stating that he has never talked about anything other then an annual salary with JP Barry, and that should Sundin want to come back those issues will all have to be negotiated.”

“No shocker here”? Huh, what??? How can an issue be THE HOLDUP, the ONLY thing stopping Sundin from coming back to the Leafs on August 7th at 6:59pm and then that issue disappear (much like Mr. Hanky in the Eklund household after each post) on August 12th at 12:31pm????

Either it is THE Stumbling block or it isn’t. How can it be that “Toronto will sign him today as long as Mats is willing to NOT include a NO TRADE CLAUSE in the contract.” when it is “No Shocker” that they haven’t even discussed the issue?

Now, on the issue of McCabe:

Hanky says: “For the first time my friends I do believe that McCabe will be somewhere else this season with almost complete certainty. However, I truly hope that this situation causes the NHLPA to go hard at the NHL for the abuse of players with NTC or NMC…”

If this is the first time you think McCabe is done as a Leaf, you clearly arent’ paying attention. I think all the Tweets from your Twitter are screwing with your head.

Secondly, why is it this issue that you want Paul Kelly to go ape over? There is nothing written ANYWHERE, except unsubstantiated rumors of coercion with respect to McCabe and the Leafs. While down in Tampa or San Jose, Dan Boyle is on the record as saying that Bolts (the Mullet and the Mogul) told him that if he didn’t wave his NTC he would be placed on waivers. So until either Ian Pulver, who would have absolutely no reason not to reveal this, does in fact state it occurred why are you assuming it did. I hope the next time a player holds out you argue that a court of law orders that player back on the ice, hey a contract is a contract right Hanky?

  1. Priceless good sir, absolutely priceless!

Thank-you for breaking down the walls of credibility on daBuzz. Every time I even consider looking at that site now I will remember Mr. Hanky to help keep reality in check. 🙂

I had a feeling Eklund was talking out of his arse on most of his ‘imminent’ rumours/trades/signings. Heck, he’s even enrolled his dog into helping his predictions so I mean that kind of says it all doesn’t it. 😉

I will say though that I think Alec Brownscombe seems to be a decent Leafs writer with very few of these outlandish rumours, so perhaps Eklund’s taint hasn’t reached all of his bloggers…

The boys at work here are loving your posts by the way, please keep up the great work! Cheers

  2. I am by no means defending Eklund, but you went into talking about McCabe and the NHLPA with no transition from Eklund to it… it was kinda confusing as all Ek said about McCabe was that “McCabe deal is close (e3)”. Anyhoo, the rest of the article was awesome, keep it up!

Thanks for the notes all. Toskla, here is the quote from me on ek (whom I know refer to as Hanky):

That is what EK(Hanky) said about McCabe, not just the E3….

    Hope that help
