More On Brad May

Had a quick chance to get with a member of the Duck entourage this afternoon. I, of course asked how Brad May has been so far this season, to which I was told:

“Very good when healthy and in the line-up. Played quite well in a four man rotation on fourth line that included Ryan Carter, Brian Sutherby, George Parros and himself. Hurt his knee in November and missed 6 games, tweaked it again in December in a practice and in a game and couldn’t get back in the line-up after that.”

Of course I can’t wait to hear those complain about dealing another pick…..Quick someone get us a list of guys picked in the 6th round who have made it as an NHLer…..

Sounds like they picked up a big body with a presence to replace those who were supposed to do that..At least I hope it means that those who were supposed to do that are going to be gone soon.

  1. Chemmy at PPP put together quite the list of guys picked in the 6th round or later.

  2. I think Kaberle was in the 5th…? But not a lot of stand-outs in the 6th round. Maybe Alfredsson??

Anyway.. if you’re referring to Jamal Mayers and Ryan Hollweg than I completely agree. They are both awful and deserve to go.

  3. Datsyuk and Zetterberg were after the sixth round. Khabibulin, Kevin Stevens, Peter Bondra.

  4. If someone is really bored, why not print a list of all the complete busts picked in the 6th round and compare to those who worked out with successful lengthy NHL careers…I’m sure the percentage would be what, less than 1%.

Odds are we won’t miss the 6th pick BUT it’s still another damn pick we’re giving up…

I’ll try to wait to pass too much judgement on this move until after the trade deadline to see what else Burke has up his sleeves.

  5. There must be one dimensional goons lingering in the AHL (or beer leagues) who wouldn’t cost more than a minimum contract and no draft picks. This reminds me of when we got Semenko at the point of him no longer wanting to fight.

The problem as I see it, is there is just no real way to judge or measure this deal. It’s not like we are going to see changes that we can directly attribute back to May. Now if we can trade Hollweg for anything better then a 6th rounder….

  6. Wait till he gets bitch slapped in his first dance………we’d have been better off un- retiring Domi………and I can’t stand Domi

Eggbert….For the first time I disagree with you. While I am not sold on this move ( I am more sold after hearing Burke with McCown) Domi was a joke…

  8. In another(smaller) market this move would go under the radar and make a degree of sense. In Toronto, the microscopic coverage will blunt the impact, especially if he gets his clock cleaned early. The only way this deal makes sense,is if May can motivate the guy originally intended for his roll,Jamal Mayers.Maybe with May’s support a leadership group can be born………for a few months at least

or if Myers is dealt for a similar or better pick? It sounds like this is a move more for the intangibles….Keith Acton may have been pushing for it, Ron Wilson didn’t sound overly enthused

  9. I heard Burke mention Acton pushed hard for May.I guess if May is a bust he has his scapegoat 😉
